April Ross
April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball players to win medals at more than one Olympics. In Tokyo over the next several days, she'll be aiming to win her third gold medal alongside the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross also hopes to get her first Olympic medal. Since she's 39 years old and has a long way to go, this could be her last shot. But she's still confident of achieving top honours. Ross through NBC Boston, said that if the team plays consistently or well they could win a gold. "I'm planning to test some luck." Ross was born in California in Costa Mesa in 1982. She grew up in Costa Mesa along with her parents and younger sister. Along with competing in various sport, she also attended Newport Harbor High School. She competed in basketball and the track as well as her indoor volleyball achievements as a pre-collegiate athlete. She stood out however during this game. During her high school career she played middle blocker outside setter and hitter in the court for volleyball, according to her college bio. Gatorade Circle of Champions named her the National Player of 1999. Her volleyball skills also earned her an Orange County Athlete of the Years trophy in 2000. Ross and Klineman have been performing their roles from 2017. However, Ross played a significant role on the beach volleyball circuit before the pairing. In fact, she won numerous major events in the past with two different partners. one of whom is the volleyball legend. Jennifer Kessy was her partner during six years between 2007 and 2013. She also coached Klineman as well as herself. Kessy as well as Ross proved to be a formidable force in the international circuit, winning the world championship in 2009 together. They won a Silver Medal during the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) as well as Misty Maytreanor took home gold overtaking them. Ross Jennings was the replacement for May-Treanor as she retired. They went on to compete for the bronze beach volleyball trophy at Rio Olympics in 2016 along with Walsh Jennings. Ross was a player for the Trojans of USC in her college after graduating from the high school she attended. Ross's time in the Trojans was amazing. She was a All-American and Pac-10 Freshman of the Year when she was a teen freshman. The Trojans made it to the Final Four. Her sophomore year was the time she was devastated by a personal setback but managed to repeat as an All-American. Over the course of the two years she played for the Trojans she was instrumental in helping them win consecutive championships. She had established herself as an all-time great by winning the 2003-04 Honda Sports Award as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross who was an USC international relations major, was a volleyball star. Margie Ross did not get to witness her daughter's rise to fame as a beach volleyball player. In 2001 when Ross was a sophomore at USC her mother passed away due to breast cancer. But she still keeps her parents close to her heart. Margie at the beach and in daily life, continues to inspire her.
